Update at the Ranches’ DeGray Lake Campus
On Tuesday, May 19th, Arkansas Senator Larry Teague met with Darrell Mitchell with the United States Corps of Engineers, Stanley Beck with the South Central Arkansas Electric Cooperative, Millard Aud with the Olds Foundation and representatives of the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches at the Ranches’ DeGray Lake Campus. Thanks to partnership with these officials and a grant from the Arkansas Department of Rural Development, the Ranches have just completed a project to replace the main power line to its South Arkansas campus.

The power line project was a joint effort by the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches, the US Corps of Engineers and the South Central Arkansas Electric Cooperatives. The old line often broke during severe weather and had become a hazard for utility workers to repair and a major inconvenience for the residents at the campus. The new line is a welcome improvement and will allow for future development on the South Arkansas campus of the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches.
The Ranches’ DeGray Lake Campus is located on a former US Corps of Engineers campground near Amity, Arkansas and is situated on a 230 acre peninsula where the Caddo River empties into the lake. It is a gorgeous, peaceful environment for the nine girls who call the campus home and live with their houseparents in Olds Cottage. Also located on the campus is the Troy Tucker Guest Lodge that can sleep up to 40 individuals; the Walter S. Morris Chapel, which overlooks DeGray Lake from atop a bluff and provides a beautiful, natural backdrop for weddings and conferences.
