Governor Mike Beebe to be Honored with 2014 Arkansas Children’s Award

Governor Mike Beebe will receive the 2014 Arkansas Children’s Award at a dinner in his honor this November. Governor Beebe has served as Master of Ceremonies and presented the Arkansas Children’s Award for the past 18 years and this year will receive the award himself. The dinner, which benefits the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches, is held each year to honor an individual who has made outstanding contributions to create better opportunities for Arkansas’s youth.

Governor Beebe is being honored for his more than 32 years of public service to the people of Arkansas as well as for his long-time support of the boys and girls at the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches. The Governor has played a major role in the success of the dinner each year and was instrumental in its inception to raise funds and awareness for the Ranch.

On Monday, September 23rd, Governor Beebe greeted the boys and girls from the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches at the historic Arkansas Governor’s Mansion. The children were given a tour of the mansion and beautiful gardens and even got to meet the First Dog of Arkansas, Viper.

“While I’m humbled to move from the emcee chair to the honoree chair this year, the focus still remains on these children,” Governor Beebe said. “It’s heartening that nearly two decades after we started, this event continues its momentum in helping the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches.”

The Buzz’s David Bazzel will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the 2014 Arkansas Children’s Award Dinner on Thursday, November 13th at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Little Rock. There will be an Arkansas-themed silent auction during the reception beginning at 6:00 pm, and dinner and the program will begin at 7:00 pm in the Ambassador Ballroom.

This Arkansas-themed silent auction will feature fabulous items ranging from a Hot Springs Racing Getaway to a Guided Duck Hunt in Stuttgart to beautiful art and jewelry.

Arkansas Impressionist artist Pat Matthews will also be painting his famous Arkansas State Flag during the reception and silent auction. The finished piece, which can also be seen hanging in the Governor’s private office at the historic Arkansas Governor’s Mansion, will be auctioned off live during the Program.

Ranch Cattle Program Featured in Hereford World Magazine

While for many years the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches has maintained a herd of 40 commercial cattle, it will soon be home to a registered Hereford herd.

In the September issue of Hereford World Magazine, Program Director Philip Ives talks about the Ranch’s new Hereford cattle program and how the Ranch hopes to use its herd as an additional source of revenue while also giving our boys and girls hands-on experience in agriculture.
